Abstract
The purpose of this report was to research and to find out what students gambling habits look like in upper secondary school at Lerums Gymnasium. The target group that took part in the report are both male and female students in year 3. The results from this were studied and compared with already existing studies made on the topic.
In order to achieve the purpose of the examination two main questions were used, the first: Are there differences between males and females in year 3 in upper secondary school at Lerums Gymnasium in gambling for money? The second: What does the gamling habits look like in upper secondary school at Lerums Gymnasium among students in year 3?
The research is based on different websites, mainly official authorities such as Folkhälsomyndigheten (public health authority). The studies gathered in this examination are mostly former studies. The research also includes websites with history and facts about gambling. The method used in the examination is a quantitative survey sent to 3 different classes in year 3 at Lerums Gymnasium. The reason behind that was to be able to get an understanding of students gambling habits in year 3 and later be able to get results to my study.
The results of my survey are presented in a minor documentary as well as an attached document with the results. The results of the survey showed that 41 participants had answered the questions but just 31% of these were women and 69% men. The results made it clear that females don’t play nearly as much as males do in year 3 at Lerums Gymnasium. With only one female out of 12 having gambled with money, meanwhile 25 out of 29 males had gambled with money. Based on the study it’s clear that gambling is common at Lerums Gymnasium among the males and rare among females. That resembles the other studies in a good way, because it’s known that males are more likely to gamble than females.
The conclusion reached is that gambling is a male dominated event. People at Lerums Gymnasium in year 3 gamble similar to the other studies made and isn’t unordinary. That means they have fairly the same gambling habits as other year 3 students in Sweden.
